Athlete’s Foot: Choose Anti-Fungal Socks
Athlete’s Foot is a medical condition common to people 12-15 years of age. This is perhaps because this is the age where people are usually most physically active, constantly involved in exercises or sports like swimming, biking, basketball, running, or exercise, among others. When a person is moving rigorously or training vigorously, he tends to sweat excessively and this is the perfect breeding ground for fungi and bacteria. Unless a person is conscious with his hygiene or treats abnormal conditions right away, a simple athlete’s foot could easily worsen and even cause further complications. Proper care for the feet is needed to prevent athlete’s foot from occurring in the first place. If caught unconsciously by using or sharing common facilities like swimming pools, shower rooms, locker rooms and gym, it should be treated right away to avoid complications.
There are many anti-fungal ointments available today that you can easily buy over the counter. Unless your condition has worsened and needs physician’s prescription, these medications are usually easy to apply and quite effective. They contain the substances miconazole, tolnaftate, or clotrimazole, anti-fungal substances proven to lessen, weaken or altogether kill these nasty micro-organisms.
For preventive measures, it is best to maintain good hygiene in whatever you do, wherever you go. Wear clean socks all the time. When you’re involved in rigorous activities, try to keep an extra pair or pairs with you all the time to avoid sweat settling in your feet and encouraging fungi from growing. Wearing cotton socks made from natural fibers are effective safeguards against athlete’s foot. The soft and thick fabric naturally cushions and protects the feet from excessive sweating while keeping it comfortable inside the shoes. If you are the type of person who tends to sweat a lot especially in the feet, try wearing anti-fungal socks. These are scientifically-designed socks made of special materials and fabric to help prevent fungi from developing in the feet. They may come a little expensive than regular socks but when you think about its long-term benefits, the investment would be well worth it. Choose anti-fungal socks of high-quality and trusted brands since settling on cheap or low-quality kinds may in fact cause you more harm later on.
Aside from wearing cotton socks and anti-fungal socks, make sure your shoes fit properly. Tight-fitting shoes will cause you discomfort and blisters while shoes that are too loose are very uncomfortable especially when you are doing exercise or sports. Wearing open-toe sandals or shoes from time to time will help keep your feet well-ventilated.
Prevention is still better than cure. Maintain a good hygiene all the time by keeping everything clean. Wear the proper clothes or accessories for specific activities to avoid any discomfort or pain. If you catch athlete’s foot unavoidably, treat it right away to prevent further complications.
