Pedestrian Auto Accidents and Personal Injury

The dangers of auto accidents are pretty well known, but one of the major overlooked areas of auto accident injury settlements is pedestrian injuries.  If you happen to be walking down the street and are hit by a car, chances are you will be subject to much more extensive and severe personal injury.   The driver of the car will most likely be subject to serious legal consequences as well, including being responsible for all damages and also possibly facing punitive damages.  Because of the high stakes that are involved both drivers and pedestrians should exercise extreme caution at certain chokepoints so that nobody gets hurt.

Most of these accidents however, can be avoided.  When you are driving, make sure that your exercise extreme caution and are aware of all your surrounding both on and off the road.  If you’re driving through a neighborhood take note of any children playing.  If their ball happens to roll into the street, odds are someone will be chasing it.  Also make sure to exercise a degree of caution at crosswalks.  This is the area where most pedestrian accidents happen.  Pay attention to the lights and always be on the lookout for pedestrians that cross at the wrong time.

If you’re a pedestrian you can avoid being hit by several thousand pounds of hurtling steel, just by using some caution.  Only cross roads at crosswalks and when the lights allow you to, if they’re present.  Also, always take your mother’s advice and look both ways before you cross the street, even when the light is green for you.

If you are a pedestrian and are injured in a car crash, you are eligible for all the same damages victims in other car accidents are given in an auto accident settlement.  You should be able to recoup money for missed time off work, hospital bills,  physical therapy costs, and possibly pain and suffering.  A personal injury attorney can help you figure out what you’re entitled to.
