The Cropped Denim Jacket: Taking Women’s Fashion by Storm
Denim jackets were cool for a while. They were the jacket of choice for a self-respecting tough guy or gal and were the sign of a person who wouldn’t take no doo-doo from nobody. Then, it sort of faded away. There were probably many reasons, but it seems denim was too cool for its own good. Just about everybody could, and did wear a denim jacket.
Then you had some people who truly lacked fashion sense and would wear a denim jacket, matched with denim jeans. This doubling of denim was probably the final nail in the coffin of what had been a respected and beloved garment.
But like a zombie, or a savior, denim has risen from the dead and is perhaps the hottest ‘new’ fashion item. Sure beats bell bottoms. They are nice to wear and have a solid feel, thanks to the weight and toughness of denim. And women are really enjoying a new cut of denim jacket- the cropped denim jacket. This is a new take on the classic jacket that cuts off a lot of material, leaving behind a jacket that covers the upper torso only.
People who are more old fashioned and expect their jackets to keep them warm will recognize that this jacket serves as an accessory first, and as a useful piece of clothing second. But what an accessory it makes! By shortening the jacket, two effects are achieved. One is that attention is brought to a woman’s bust, which is where a lot of women want it. Two is that the waist simultaneously exposed and, thanks to the jacket above it, made to look slimmer- another effect that women are after. There are few items of clothing that can do this, and that’s why the cropped version of the denim jacket can be found on the bodies of so many women now. As an added benefit, the shorter jacket presents many new and exciting possibilities in terms of layering.
